July is UV Safety Awareness Month

July is UV Safety Awareness Month. Skin Cancer is one of the most common cancers in the USA. Most cases of skin cancer are caused by UV radiation exposure from the sun and tanning beds.

There are two major groups of skin cancer: Melanoma and Non-Melanoma.

  • Melanoma is the less common type of skin cancer, however it is the cause of most skin cancer deaths. Melanoma can spread to other parts of the body including to internal organs.
  • Non-Melanoma cancer is of two types Basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. Basal cell cancer is usually limited to the skin and causes scarring. Squamous cells also limited to skin, however left untreated or neglected can spread to internal organs.

Therefore, it is important to get skin cancer checks at least once a year. It is important to check with a medical provider if you notice any new skin lesions, changes in your skin or changes in an existing skin lesion or mole.

UV Safety Tips:

Protection from harmful UV radiation can prevent or lower your risk of skin cancer.

  1. Use Sunscreen- use a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on sunny and even cloudy days!
  2. Wear protective clothing and eyewear – wear a long sleeve shirt, pants, brimmed hat, and UV blocking sunglasses.
  3. Avoid sun exposure – especially between 10am and 4pm
  4. Avoid Tanning beds

Why You Should Choose Medical-Grade SPF Over Over-the-Counter Sunscreen

When it comes to protecting your skin, medical-grade SPF offers advanced benefits compared to over-the-counter sunscreen. Here’s why upgrading to medical-grade SPF is a smart choice for your skin’s health and radiance:

  • Broad-Spectrum and Photostable Protection: Medical-grade SPFs provide stronger, more stable protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays, ensuring long-lasting coverage throughout the day.
  • Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide for UVA Defense: These high-quality minerals deliver superior, long-lasting UVA protection, making them an excellent choice for complete sun defense.
  • Fewer Irritants, Better Ingredients: Formulated with higher-quality ingredients and designed to be fragrance-free, medical-grade SPFs are less likely to cause irritation. They are ideal for sensitive, acne-prone, or rosacea-affected skin, as well as for post-procedure care.
  • Superior Protection Against Pigmentation: Tinted medical-grade SPFs often contain iron oxide, which shields skin from visible light, a major contributor to pigmentation issues like melasma and sunspots.
  • Multi-Functional Formulas: Many medical-grade SPFs go beyond basic sun protection, incorporating anti-aging benefits, peptides, growth factors, and moisturizers into their formulas for an all-in-one skincare solution.
  • Cost-Effective in the Long Run: By combining multiple benefits and offering superior protection, medical-grade sunscreens are a long-term investment in your skin’s health and appearance.
  • Clinically Tested and Backed by Science: These products are supported by rigorous clinical testing, offering you scientifically validated skincare solutions you can trust.
